Maintaining and servicing the excavator track system is the key to ensuring efficient operation and prolonging the service life of the equipment.
I. DAILY INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE 1. Cleaning debris – Clean dirt, gravel, tree branches and other foreign objects in the crevices of the track plate after every day’s operation to avoid abrasion or clogging.
Use high-pressure water gun to flush (avoid direct impact on the sealing part), or use special tools to remove stubborn impurities.
2. Check the track elasticity – Standard: The track sag should be in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements (usually 30-50mm).
Adjustment method: Fine adjustment by tensioning device (such as grease cylinder or spring) to avoid too loose (derailment) or too tight (accelerated wear).
3. Lubricate the key parts – Support wheel/driving wheel/guide wheel: apply special grease (e.g. Mobilgrease XHP 222) every 8 hours. – Chain track knuckle pins: Grease regularly to prevent dry friction causing pin wear.
4. Check bolt tightness – Check the fixing bolts of track plate, supporting wheel and driving wheel daily to prevent loosening which may cause abnormal noise or falling off.
II. Periodic in-depth maintenance (every 500 hours or weekly)
1. Comprehensive lubrication
Replenish grease at the lubrication points of the supporting wheel, guiding wheel and carrier chain wheel to ensure sufficient lubrication.
Replace the grease of the tensioning device (e.g. use calcium-based grease) to avoid hardening and failure.
2. Check the wear and tear
Track plate: check the wear degree of rubber block, if the steel is exposed or the rubber is cracked it needs to be replaced in time.
Chain track knuckle: check the clearance between the pin and sleeve, too large a clearance may lead to derailment. – Toothed block: If the toothed block of the driving wheel and guide wheel is worn beyond the limit (more than 20% of the original size), it needs to be replaced.
3. Tightening and Adjustment
Review all bolt torque (according to manufacturer’s standard, e.g. support wheel bolts are usually 400-500N-m).
Adjust the track elasticity to ensure even force on both sides. III. Long-term Parking or Adverse Environment Response 1. Corrosion Prevention Treatment Before long-term storage, clean the tracks thoroughly and apply rust preventive oil (e.g. WD-40), especially to the exposed metal parts.
